Mary Ellen is a native of South Carolina. She received her undergraduate degree from North Carolina A & T State University, Greensboro, NC. Her husband and she moved to California in 1966 and have been residents of Foster City for approximately forty-five years. They have two sons and three grandchildren. She is a retired educator—teacher, counselor and administrator. Her teaching career began in the New York City Schools in 1963 at Jr. High School 120 in the Bronx. Prior to moving to California in 1966, she applied for and received a teaching position in the SFUSD where she worked in various schools and programs for thirty-four years as a teacher, counselor and administrator-the longest of which was spent at the high school level. Her graduate work began at The City University of New York. She received my MA degree and teaching/counseling credentials from San Francisco State University and Cal State East Bay, Hayward. Her teaching experience includes part-time instructor at the University of San Francisco. She is also the author of two books: Standards-Based Counseling in the Middle School and The Grandparenting Journey: Leading the Way.
